[The] Alternative Nation favourites Jaguar Dreams have shared a delicate stripped down version of Mean Something from their debut EP which dropped at the end of last year. The track is one of a couple of stripped down one take tracks the guys recorded from the EP whilst in a studio in North Carolina.
Speaking of the rework Jaguar Dreams say: We went into a gorgeous studio in North Carolina to mess around and see what came from it. We found a beautiful 70’s Fender Rhodes, and along with the Roland Juno-106 we had brought (we always have one with us), this stripped down version of Mean Somethin’ just happened in a single take. We really love how this raw version highlights the emotion of the song. It is performed much slower than the album cut, and the meaning almost shifts from the playful and lighthearted vibe from the original take, to a much more serious, deep emotional plea. It’s wild to us that the same chords and the same lyrics could make us feel such different thoughts and emotions, all just with a shift in instrumentation and pace.
