2019 has been a funny old year, whilst the world seems to be in a state of turmoil, division and hate seems to be growing towards minorities of all colours, creeds, gender sets and orientations, the new music has seen great growth and the emergence of loads of great new music and artists.
The 2019 new music scene is one filled with love, inclusion, acceptance and lots and lots of support for their fellow artists and those of us just like me that help promote what they are doing with blog posts, social media blitz’s, podcast and radio plays/features.
This year alone I have connect with hundreds of new and upcoming artists as well as those still pushing forward with their dreams and thanks to the wonders of modern technology some have even become friends, because when done properly social media and online interactions can be a really good and positive thing and you get to connect with people all over the world and from all walks of life.
With 2019 in its final stages and 2020 ready to get going I find myself thinking about what’s ahead for The Alternative Nation from a blog, podcast and radio standpoint. I have loads of ideas and goals for 2020 but most importantly I want to continue to grow and help more artists on their journey but unfortunately I live in a very troubled nation and 2020 could get very very difficult not just for me but for the near 6 million people in England alone and 65+ million in the whole of the UK.
I do what I do with no financial gains and I have no other source of income and with money running low I fear that 2020 at worst may spell the end of The Alternative Nation or at least reduce down my output.
This is something I don’t want to do as I want to keep helping as many artists and bands as possible to achieve their goals and dreams.
So what can be done? Well there are a number of things and ways to help, some I can do myself but there are somethings that you the reader of this blog can do to help also.
First the things I’m going to be looking into and doing to help with the financial issues.
Sponsorships.
I am going to look into and contact some companies with regards to sponsorship opportunities. I will mainly be looking for companies and products that fit in with what The Alternative Nation is all about.
More Outlets For The Podcast.
This is something that ultimately won’t help financially in the short term but with more ways of gaining exposure for what I’m doing it will hopefully lead to more opportunities that in term will be financially stable.
Go All In On Crowdfunding.
This is something that I need to focus on more and I will starting making posts and shows just for those of you that are kind enough to back what I do.
These are going to be my main goals and focused areas in 2020 outside of all the cool and fun content I have in store.
The next part of this is how YOU can help me grow and keep The Alternative Nation around.
Feed My Indulgence.
This one is pretty simple as I’ve mentioned it above. If you like what I do be it on the blog, podcast or radio you can give as little or as much as you can or would like via crowdfunding. I have two forms of this with ko-fi & PayPal.
Can’t Help Financially?
I totally understand and accept that not everyone can help financially but there are still ways you can help support The Alternative Nation. Sharing the blog, podcast and radio shows is just as important as any financial help as the more eyes and ears I can get on what I do the more leverage I have to get sponsors and backers.
You can also contact your local, national and international radio stations and tell them that you want The Alternative Nation or me personally on the station. I mostly ask this of my Canadian followers and friends as this is my ultimate goal but again feel free to help wherever you are.
The more support and financial backing I can get will allow me to have the time to concentrate on creating content and not having to worry about finances. This will also allow me to be able to expand what I’m doing and bring in new features and shows.
2019 has been a great year of music discovery and connection and I would like to thank all the PR companies for sending me so much new music and considering me to help spread the word.
Thank you to all the great artists that have been in touch and interacted with me, your trust, consideration and support is very much appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who has bought me a ko-fi (coffee), I appreciate it more than you could ever know.
Thank you to everyone who has followed me across social media, visited the blog, downloaded or streamed the podcast, listened live or listened back afterwards to my radio shows.
Thank you to RKC for allowing me to bring 2 hours of new music, classic tracks and forgotten gems to the people on my alternate Friday nights CJKP-DB Alt-Rock Radio who allowed me to hit the (internet) airwaves of my favourite country in the world in 2019 and bring an hour of music to the fine people of Canada every Monday night. It’s an honour and a pleasure to be part of both stations.
And here’s to 2020 and another year of great new music… I hope I have the privilege and honour to continue to bring you content throughout the year.
Stay Gold Everybody,
Kevin Humphreys
